Professional Cookery students visited York Food Festival to sample local and international foods, discover current industrial trends, and network with employers and suppliers.
The budding chefs were exposed to a wide array of culinary outlets and were inspired to explore further employability and career options in hospitality and catering.
David Jackson, Chef Lecturer NVQ 3, said: “Visiting York Food Festival was an excellent opportunity for students to network with industry professionals and expand their knowledge of current industry trends. They also got the chance to put their skills into practice by devising dishes for a menu based on their experience when they came back to college.”
Cain Shields, who is studying the NVQ 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery, said: “I really enjoyed visiting the festival, trying new foods and learning about other cultures’ cuisines. It was a great insight into the next big trends in the industry.”
York Food Festival runs events throughout the year celebrating local and regional food and drink, with hundreds of people enjoying taste and drink trails, street food and demonstrations. Weekend trader marquees also gave small businesses the opportunity to have a place in the heart of the festival.
