Winners announced for Apprenticeship Recognition Celebration Awards

As part of our programme of events for National Apprenticeship Week 2019, our Business Engagement and Apprenticeship Team hosted an Apprenticeship Recognition Celebration Awards.

Designed to recognise the commitment and achievements of employers, staff and apprentices involved with our Apprenticeship provision at the College, we were overwhelmed with nominations from individuals and businesses across the region.

Hosted at The Gallery restaurant at our Ashington campus on Wednesday 6th March, the event was an enormous success and we are delighted to reveal our list of winners from the business community. 

 

Small Medium Enterprise Employer of the Year

This award aims to recognise an employer with up to 100 employees that shows outstanding contribution, delivery and support to apprenticeship development within the organisation and is an advocate of hard work and ambition.

 

Winner: Village Car Centre

Highly commended: William Hackett Chains, Graeme Tennick Accountancy

 

 

Large Enterprise Employer of the Year

This award aims to recognise an employer with over 100 employees that shows outstanding contribution, delivery and support to apprenticeship development within the organisation and is an advocate of hard work and ambition.

 

Winner: AkzoNobel Ashington

Highly commended: Glendale Countryside, Newcastle University

 

 

Rising Star/Best Newcomer

This award aims to recognise an employer which is new to working with Northumberland College. In relation to Apprenticeships, the Rising Star/Best Newcomer would have fully embraced the concept of staff development and enrichment through apprenticeships and have gone ‘above and beyond’ to ensure that their Apprentice/s have the best opportunities within their place of employment.

 

Winner: L Crisp, Plumbing and Gas Solutions

Highly commended: Gebhard’s Bakery, AkzoNobel Ashington

 

 

Skills Champion

This award aims to recognise an employer which continuously demonstrates skills sustainability in the workplace and is committed to addressing skill shortages within their industry through the use of apprenticeships.

 

Winner: George Smith Furniture

Highly commended: Glendale Countryside, Eminent Engineering

 

 

Employer Contribution

This award recognises an employer which demonstrates full commitment to apprenticeship reform, and is an advocate for the continual development of apprenticeship programmes through their support of the College’s ethos.

 

Winner: AkzoNobel Ashington

Highly commended: Arc Trinova, Gateshead Council

 

Apprenticeship Advocate 

In honour of our former Chair of Governors, Jacqui Henderson CBE, this award is given to role models inspiring the next generation of apprentices. 

Winner: Jackie Johnson and Debra Beattie, Bernica Group
