Students praised for involvement in rural event

17 July

Northumberland College students have played a large role in this year's Rural Awards, hosted at our Kirkley Hall campus.

A wide range of learners from several curriculum areas supported this event, which is organised by newspaper group Reach PLC.

In the run-up to the glitzy ceremony, students from agriculture and horticulture prepared some of the ingredients served as part of the meal, and the Floristry course used flowers from the Kirkley Hall Estate to create beautiful table displays.

Our talented HND graphic designers created the events programme, menu design and place settings. On the night, HNC photographers took pictures to mark this special occasion and our award-winning NECTA catering and hospitality students cooked and served a delicious three-course dinner.

Speaking about the Rural Awards, Head of Commerical for Northumberland College, Chloe Baker said: "It's been fantastic to get students more involved than ever in the Rural Awards.

"This is the second time we have hosted this event at Kirkley Hall and I am delighted with the student's dedication, participation and hard work to make it such a success.

"The skills our students have learnt as part of this project is invaluable and supports them to be career and industry-ready."

Students worked with the Reach PLC team in advance of the event and were supported by various college departments including staff from the land and environment, creative and care academy, marketing and commercial operations.
