Dawn Eastham, Academy Head of Hair and Beauty at Northumberland College, said: "I am delighted to be working in partnership with Active Northumberland.

"Providing students with real world experience is central to employability objectives across Northumberland College and none more so than in hair and beauty which is a consumer led sector. This exciting opportunity means our students get industry experience whilst studying."

Beauty Therapy Level 3 Student, Cheryl Pearson from Ashington, said: "It's great to get experience in a proper working environment and getting used to the fast pace of it. There's client after client coming in, so it's all about being prompt and efficient.

"Employers look for experience and industry-ready staff to take, so this course and partnership is offering us this and enhancing our career prospects."

In the North East the sector employs over 38,000 people within hair, beauty, nails, barbering and spas. The sector forecasts continued growth too.
