Big Berwick Bonanza attracts hundreds of students

30 April

Northumberland College’s Big Berwick Bonanza has highlighted further education and career opportunities to over 250 students from across Northumberland.

Northumberland College's Berwick Campus welcomed pupils from Berwick Academy and The Duchess's Community High School in Alnwick to take part in a wide range of activities and workshops, highlighting the college's local facilities and provision, as well as raising awareness to the variety of career paths available to students in Northumberland.

Throughout the day, groups of learners visited various activity stations spread out across the College's Berwick campus.

Year 9 and 10 students enjoyed masterclasses and workshops which included STEM forensic Science crime investigations, music production live DJ sets, motor vehicle workshops, art and design craft lessons, beauty hand massages and mini manicure demonstrations as well as various science and career masterclasses.

Primary schools Spittal First School and Holy Trinity First also attended the event and were introduced to STEM based activities organised by the College's Science department.

Berwick Centre Manager, Tracy Girdwood, said: "It was a pleasure to welcome so many pupils from across Northumberland to our Berwick Campus and to showcase our fantastic facilities.

"We had excellent feedback from the students and staff involved and it was great to highlight different career paths and opportunities available to students locally, that they might not have known about or considered before."

Courses at Northumberland College's Berwick Centre include Health and Care, Access to Higher Education, Travel and Tourism, Special Effects Make-up, Art and Photography, Motor Vehicle, Construction, Event Management and Sports, in partnership with Berwick Rangers Football Club.

The Graduate salon situated on Berwick High Street is the College's commercial hairdressing and beauty therapy salon, with Wella Centre of Excellence status, offering a range of courses in hair and beauty.

Those wishing to find out more about courses can come along to an open event on Tuesday 12 June, 4.30pm - 7pm.

College representatives will also be on hand in Berwick Town Centre on Saturday, 13 July, 9am - 3pm in Berwick Town Centre in the College's event exhibition van.
