Northumberland College’s HND Photography students have secured a special guest to open their first public exhibition of their work ‘Lens Creative’ at Blyth Sports Centre on Friday.

The Mayoress of Blyth, Margaret Parker, will be unveiling the exhibition, which will be available for public viewing and purchase from 25 April until 31 May.

The five students, who are in the second year of their course, range in age from 20 to 60 years old and are Susan Davey from Blyth, Gordon Scott from Boldon, Michael Flynn from Ashington, Katie Simmons from Cramlington and Janine Hocking from Newcastle.

The students each have their own style of photography which will be reflected in the diverse displays.

Another student, Laura Hardy will be having a solo exhibition 23 May to 1 June in Wooler.

Course Team Leader, Jacqui Dixon said: "Exhibiting their work is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain recognition for their work as well as giving them valuable professional experience.

"The students have organised the exhibition themselves as part of the important work-based element of the course and will be the students' first steps into the profession and they'll find out if there is a market for their products."

The HND in Photography course at Northumberland College provides the traditional skills of image making combined with an ability to work professionally in the digital environment. Graduates can be accepted into the final year of a degree course or move into jobs in the industry.
