Who is the course for?

The BA in Education and Professional Development is particularly suitable for people who want to progress from a Certificate in Education to a degree, and will help you build further on the skills, knowledge and understanding developed as part of your studies. The course will help you explore a range of policy, theory and practice within the context of your own work. It also provides you with opportunities to reflect upon your own personal and professional development, to carry out research, and work on topics that have practical benefits to you and your organisation. Existing teaching and learning experiences will be used to plan and explore new ways of developing and understanding contemporary good practice.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

This course is primarily aimed at those working either within the education and training sector who already have a Certificate in Education Level 5 or a Level 5 teaching/training/education qualification.

It takes two years (part-time) to attain the degree and you can choose to complete either an unclassified degree or a degree with honours.

College interview is required.

This course is delivered in partnership with the University of Huddersfield is primarily delivered via a blended learning style approach which combines face-to-face Saturday day schools and creative on line activities with both individual and collaborative study. Day schools will include learner centred activities such as discussions and presentations as well as teaching by tutors from a range of centres. Pre and post day school activities will be available via the University s virtual learning environment that you will complete independently. The course lasts for two years and during this period; you will be part of a learning community with other students from the University of Huddersfield and partner colleges. Tutorials take place at Northumberland College.

Assessment is based on assignments submitted at the end of each module submitted through Turnitin on the University s virtual learning environment, Unilearn. These may be essays, presentations or projects.

As this is a BA Hons route additional qualifications have not been attached to the course delivery.

BA Hons Education and Professional Development Level 6

Graduates of the BA Hons can go onto Masters level study.

Higher Education learners are entitled to apply for HE Loans that cover the cost of tuition. In addition, depending on your chosen course of study and individual circumstances, you may be entitled to a maintenance loan. You may also qualify for a college bursary All learners can also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals for learners resident in houses where income is below £25000 annually.
