Antonia is looking forward to an incredible future travelling the world after studying beauty therapy at Sunderland College.
Believing college would provide the fastest route into her chosen career, Antonia has secured her dream job with Steiner and One Spa World who operate spas, salons and fitness centres for cruise lines such as Carnival, Norwegian, P&O, Princess and Royal Caribbean.
Describing her time at Sunderland College’s City Campus as ‘fun, inspiring and positive’ Antonia has praised the course and tutors for helping grow her confidence and transforming her into a confident beauty therapist.
Antonia said: “For me the best part about college was the constant support of my tutor Samantha and the beauty class, knowing I always had a support network of different people of all different ages that also treat me like an adult really allowed me to believe in myself and flourish.
“The course was fun and my tutor was able to create an environment where as a student I felt although I could be creative without any judgement and be treated as an individual. Because of this I honestly feel as though I have become not only a confident, professional therapist but an extremely confident individual.
“My experience at college would not have been nearly as amazing without the fabulous team of tutors that worked with me in the beauty department. The knowledge that I have gained from my lecturer and my experience at college, not only academically but lessons in life, I will take with me wherever life takes me.”
Sunderland College’s beauty therapy students have the opportunity to be involved in regional and national skills competitions to showcase their talent, gain experience with real clients in the on-campus salon, as well as be involved in masterclasses and industry talks.
“I attended any enrichment activities that were offered to me at college,” Antonia added. “In my first year we attended Manchester Beauty Show which really helped me put into perspective the type of career I wanted and helped me understand the different avenues my beauty therapy qualifications could take me down.
“We also visited a hotel to provide some simple beauty treatments to people who devoted their lives to caring for an ill loved one; this experience really helped me use my initiative on how to make the non-beauty related space as relaxing as possible and definitely improved my confidence having a very, under pressure, hands on experience with the public.
“My tutor also arranged for different brands and people to come in and do presentations with us, this was amazing as talking to other successful beauty therapists inspired me and allowed me to discover different career paths which I could go down that I didn’t even know existed. I know that this great start in my career will lead me to create an amazing life.”
Maths and English are everywhere! They are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and to progress to your dream career. A GCSE Maths and English qualification could be the difference between being accepted onto a university course or getting a job promotion.
