What’s it all about?

The course covers a wide range of areas including children and young people's development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs and communication and professional relationships.
There are also a range of other units which you will study including a wide variety of optional units which support learners to become specialist in supporting different aspects of learning. These options will link with your placement to enhance your knowledge and provide you with the competency-based elements of the qualification.

You should have two GCSEs at 4 or above or an appropriate Level 1 qualification. You must be able to demonstrate positive communication skills and effective levels of reading and writing (an initial assessment will be undertaken to support your application)

You will create a portfolio of evidence such as posters, leaflets, written reports, reflective accounts which will be assessed internally. Formative feedback supports you to improve and develop your knowledge and skills.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

The course is full-time over 1 year and within this you will undertake 1-2 days placement per week to achieve the required number hours of work experience.

This qualification is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s settings including early years and social care.
