The course covers a wide range of areas including children and young people's development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs and communication and professional relationships.
There are also a range of other units which you will study including a wide variety of optional units which support learners to become specialist in supporting different aspects of learning. These options will link with your placement to enhance your knowledge and provide you with the competency-based elements of the qualification.
You should have two GCSEs at 4 or above or an appropriate Level 1 qualification. You must be able to demonstrate positive communication skills and effective levels of reading and writing (an initial assessment will be undertaken to support your applicatio

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/ observations and written assignments. You will be allocated an assessor who will guide you through your qualification and attend your workplace to observe your practice.
English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.
The course runs for 2 days per week over 1 year in addition you will be required to undertake 2 days placement per week to achieve a minimum of 240 hours of work experience.
This course is designed for those who wish to work in a school environment working with children over the age of 5 years old alongside the National Curriculum.
