The qualification allows students to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors of health and social care and childcare. It provides opportunities for the development of transferable skills and supports progression to level 2 qualifications along with providing students with the opportunity to progress to employment, in due course, in a range of job roles in the care sectors.
You will take part in practical activities, trips and voluntary community-based activities to develop your independent learning. Ideal if you would like to train and prepare for a career working with children and young people or in health and social care.
You don't need any formal qualifications to join the course, however you will need to have good communication skills and a strong interest in working with people in care settings or with children. DBS clearance and references are required.

All units will be internally assessed and externally quality assuread. A range of methods of assessment will include written reports, designing a leaflet or booklet, group discussions and skills demonstrations.
English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your chosen career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills. This will be a mandatory part of your study bundle.
The course is full-time and runs over Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change and will be confirmed at the beginning of term.
This qualification will develop the knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s settings, helping you to understand the similarities and differences between the sectors to allow you to decide on your progression route. On successful completion of this course you can progress to level 2 Health & Social Care or level 2 Early Years and Childcare.
