You must hold the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills or an equivalent certificate from an alternative awarding body. Learners require a strong level of oral and written English to participate in the course, ideally a GCSE in English which is required to read handouts, write assignments and produce a portfolio of work. You will also be expected to produce assignments in a word-processed format.

The course runs for two years’ part time, where attendance is required one day a week (Thursday). The academic year runs September to July (38 weeks). This delivery model can vary. It consists of a participative approach using tutor input, role plays, discussions, independent research, group and paired work and case studies backed up with handouts to reinforce learning. This includes skills practice which will be assessed through recorded observation and reflection. Personal commitment, ability to meet deadlines and regular attendance is essential. 100 client hours must be accrued in a counselling placement setting inclusive of supervision regarding this caseload; a minimum of 10 personal therapy hours are also a mandatory part of this study programme.

Progress will be assessed by a range of methods including: assignments, case studies, presentations, applied theory via skills practice work and placement work (note: placement cannot occur until you have been assessed as 'placement ready' which is usually April time of year 1).

After completing the course, you can find employment in Counselling focused organisations or begin the process of setting up in private practice. You could also continue to study for a degree BA Hons in Counselling (Top Up).

This course is taught in line with the BACP professional body. This course is not an accredited BACP course however you can still apply for individual accrediation with this professional body.

Thursday 9.30-4.30pm (term time). Attendance is mandatory. Please aim to avoid booking personal holidays in teaching term time. This course is a two year part time programme (starts September 2020 and ends July 2022.

This is a two-year part time programme. After successfully completing this programme you will have to opportunity to progress onto the BA Honours in Counselling (Top Up), or go into the workplace using the qualifications you have gained. This course is not suitable for people looking for psychological assistance to deal with personal issues

? Foundations in Humanism (Person Centred, Gestalt, Existentialism)
? Self in Context; Embracing Diversity
? Therapeutic Diversity (CBT and Psychodynamic)
? Personal, Professional & Skills Development (a blend of the above models)
? Qualificatory Practice Unit
The course consists of five units in the second year:
? Grief, Loss & Trauma
? Introduction to Research Process
? Cross Cultural Counselling;
? Supervised Practice
? Qualificatory Practice Unit

In order to complete the course, you must successfully complete all eleven modules.
