What’s it all about?

The countryside management course is designed to give the student a wide range of practical skills and knowledge, enabling them to enter employment in the countryside sector or progress into higher level courses in further education or higher education.

The course is designed around local needs and local habitats, many of which are present on the Kirkley estate. Most students study the course over a two year period, undertaking nine units per year. In the second year you will be required to undertake eight units at the college and an industrial experience unit, which is usually one day per week on a work placement.

You will need to have four GCSEs at grade C or above, an Intermediate GNVQ, or a Level 2 Diploma. Mature students and applicants with a significant level of experience will also be considered.

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/ observations, written assignments, and identification tests.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

The course runs for 3 days per week over 2 years.
