Fully trained dog handler with expanding company, currently providing dog walking and small pet care services, expanding to offer day care and obedience training for dogs and small animals. Providing activities and play, based around each animal’s individual character and requirements.


Vacancy short description: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to work with dogs and small animals within a rapidly expanding pet services company in Blyth.

Vacancy full description: You will be assisting the Company Director, an experienced dog handler, to carry out duties, including:

  • Customer service – learning about owners and their pets
  • Walking and caring for dogs
  • Learning obedience training for pets
  • Cleaning of kennels and training areas
  • Feeding of animals on a schedule
  • Monitoring animal behaviour and possibly dealing with stressful situations


Future prospects: Full time employment. Progression to level 3.

Training to be provided: Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Apprenticeship

Qualifications required: GCSE Grade A-C in Maths and English (or equivalent) preferred

Skills required: Able to take instruction and constructive criticism, working as part of a team. Reliability, attention to detail, practical thinker, good communication, customer service, able to deal with potentially stressful situations

Personal qualities: Passionate and caring about animals, respectful, Pro Active person, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, good team player, enthusiastic, willing to learn about all aspects of animal care, committed to completing the apprenticeship, a good work ethic & hard working, creative and motivated, not frightened to get your hands dirty!

Reality check: This can be a very busy and high pressured role, cleaning of kennels and training area essential therefore commitment, attitude and behaviour is a key element for the successful candidate. You must be able to take instructions and act on them appropriately. You will be required to work early mornings, late evenings and weekends on occasion if required.
