Useful Information

Here’s some handy hints on all things apprenticeships…

  • Apprentices work as a paid employee within an organisation whilst undertaking a wide range of training which leads to a qualification
  • They work for at least 30 hours a week and training for their qualification will take place either at work or at Northumberland College
  • Apprentices will spend 20% of their paid working hours in training and development activities
  • Apprenticeships take between 1-5 years depending on the level, sector and prior skills
  • They are available from Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs A-C) all the way up to degree level
  • Upon achieving, the majority of apprentices (90%) stay in employment (including 2% self-employed), with seven in ten (71%) staying with the same employer
  • On average, individuals with an advanced apprenticeship earn between £77,000 and £117,000 more over their lifetime than similar individuals with Level 2 qualifications
  • All apprentices will have a Workplace Mentor to guide them through vocational training and will be supported by Skills Coach Specialists
