Located at the heart of a 300 home community, St Mary’s Inn is a 5 star ‘gastropub’ with 11 bedrooms. Due to construction work taking place in the immediate vicinity, the Inn was temporarily closed last May. Now that this work is well advanced, we are planning to reopen in May 2018. As part of the ‘Jesmond Dene House’ family the emphasis is on quality and the highest standards of hospitality.

Coming on board at the re-opening of the Inn, you will work as part of our team to:

  • Prepare and use fresh food and vegetables in cooking

  • Assist Head Chef and Commis Chefs in preparing foods to order

  • Working on hobs, ovens and use kitchen equipment

  • Learn new skills and experiment with ingredients

  • Monitor stock levels and ensure excellent quality of produce, stock rotation

  • Take responsibility for work and service area, ensuring clear, clean and tidy

  • Adhere to strict food hygiene and health and safety regulations at all times.

    Skills required:

  • A genuine interest in the catering industry
  • Awareness of basic food hygiene regulations
  • Good timekeeping and reliable attendance record
  • Possibly experienced in cooking but not essential
  • A positive and pro-active attitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to take instruction

    Personal qualities:
  • You will have a genuine interest in cooking and catering with a willingness to listen and learn information from those with professional experience in the industry
  • Excellent personal hygiene standards are essential and supporting the team in ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen at all times

    Qualifications required: GCSE Grade A-C in Maths and English (or equivalent). Functional skills will be undertaken at College by applicants without this qualification.

    Training to be provided: Level 2 Commis Chef, In-house Training with employer,

    Future prospects: Progression to level 3, Full time employment

    Reality check: St Mary’s Inn is located near Stannington therefore please check accessibility regarding public transport dependant on your home location. Own transport may be required. The hours of work may incorporate varied working shifts.

Important Information: There is no age limit to this vacancy. Anyone from 16 years + can apply. Dependant on your personal financial circumstances, you may be eligible for additional support as you will be working at least 30 hours per week on a low income wage.
