Beresford Arms, Whalton

Built in the mid 1800's in the heart of Whalton Village our former coaching inn serving quality food and drink.

With a major refurbishment inside and out in the first half of 2018 we give you the new and improved Beresford Arms.

Stripping the building back to bare stone we carefully put together a pub & restaurant with the perfect balance between the building's history and a modern Northumbrian pub.

 

We are now looking to recruit an Assistant Apprentice Chef to join our team at The Beresford Arms. In this role you will work alongside our Head Chef to gain excellent culinary skills and working practices within the catering industry. Although experience is desired, it is not essential as full training will be given to anyone with a passion for learning about the food and hospitality industry.

Your duties will mainly include:

  • Ensuring all work areas are clear, clean and tidy at all times
  • Rotate and carrying out stock control of fresh produce and cooking ingredients
  • Learning to garnish dishes and perfect presentation
  • Know how to control quality and quantity of food dishes
  • Be involved in suggesting creative ideas for our menu
  • Preparation of fresh ingredients ready for start of service
  • Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene levels of the kitchen in line with Health & Safety and Food Hygiene Regulations
  • Use of relevant kitchen equipment and utensils when required
  • Working as part of a small team

Training Provided:

  • Level 2 Assistant (Commis) Chef apprenticeship standard 
  • Training with employer

 

 Skills required:

  • A good basic understanding and awareness of catering, kitchen and culinary skills
  • Willingness to learn and help other team members
  • Looking to further develop your skills
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of food hygiene
  • Very reliable and punctual in attendance to work times/shifts
  • A genuine interest in working within the catering industry
  • An recognition of the importance of team work

Personal qualities: You must be willing to work as part of a small, busy team, helping where required and willing to maintain high standards of food delivery. A desire to exceed our customers’ expectations in food preparation and delivery. To carry out additional duties as needed due to small team. Have a positive “can-do” attitude to assist and confident in talking to customers if necessary, welcoming and polite when doing so.

Qualifications required: GCSE Grade A-C in Maths and English (or equivalent) preferred but not essential

Future prospects: Progression to level 3, full time employment.

Reality check: You will be on your feet for the majority of your working shift. Your hours of work will vary dependant on shift patterns, possibly incorporating early mornings and late evenings. Please make sure you know the location of the Beresford Arms prior to applying and you can get there for working times.
