Photography Case Study

Claire Brown, HND Photography

Claire Brown, HND Photography

I’ve always had an interest in photography and I got to a stage of my life when I decided that I wanted to study and make a career out of it, so I enrolled at Northumberland College.

I first enrolled on the AS Level in Photography then progressed to the HND course; it started off as a hobby but quickly became everything I wanted it to be.

I work full-time 35 hours per week and the flexibility of the HND in Photography gave me the opportunity to study on my two days off.

We've learnt about fashion and still-life photography, Photoshop as well as the beginning of photography. I've spent time in the dark room learning about traditional photography and the chemicals used.

As part of the course I visited the Tate Modern in London, it was a fantastic experience going with like-minded people from my class.

The course enables progression to university but I feel I have the skills and confidence to go straight into work and I'm looking forward to setting up my own photography business.
