At the School of Art & Design we offer courses from level 1 to level 3 as well as a range of Higher Education courses at HND level and apprenticeships. We also offer a wide range of P/T courses. So regardless of where you are in your career journey we have course at all levels to get you off to a flying start.
At the School of Art & Design you will find inspirational
teachers most of whom are still working and practicing in
industry. They are able to relate this experience to their
teaching ensuring you get not only the underpinning knowledge and
skills but an understanding of what it takes to succeed in the
industry. With such strong industry connections we are able to
offer students a great range of live projects. Students have
in recent years worked with AkzoNobel (Dulux), The Alnwick Garden,
Northumberland County Council, Tyne Tees Models, Gardener
Richardson, BAIT, ISIS Arts, the-all-in-one-company, Barter Books,
to name a few.
95% of our students successfully passed their
courses in the last academic year.
100% of our students making an application through UCAS were
successful in securing their place the vast majority at their first
choice institution and these were at some of the top universities
in the UK.
The department has gone from strength to strength in recent
years and we have expanded our provision delivering on 3 campuses
Ashington, Hexham and now Newcastle. We now offer
Performing Arts based at the Hexham campus and delivered in
association with the Queens Hall Hexham. We offer the Level 3
Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (FAD) from professional
studios at Bamburgh House in the centre of Newcastle in
collaboration with Breeze Creatives. This year will see the
introduction of an exciting new course at Ashington in Music
Production and DJ'ing.
It is easy to underestimate the influence of the Creative Sector
in our economy with many people still wrongly viewing the Arts as a
hobby activity. The Creative Industries are the fastest
growing sector of the UK economy. The number of creative jobs
in the UK rose by 66,000 to 2.62million in 2013 as creative roles
grew faster than the rest of the economy. For example there
are now more jobs in the creative industries than there are in the
IT industry one in every 12 UK roles is now a creative job.
So whether you see yourself working as a Fashion Designer,
Photographer, Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Artist, Games
Designer, DJ, Music Producer, performing Artist, Actor or in any
other artistic role, our School of Art and Design offers a
stimulating environment to create and craft your way to a career in
the Creative Industries.
