Who is the course for?

The programme is designed to give students a thorough and critical understanding of modern arboricultural practice enabling them to design, plan and facilitate the management of urban trees and woodlands.

The programme will include formal teaching strategies such as lectures, seminars, written assignments, presentations, and discussion boards. In addition, significant informal and experiential learning through focused session planning in the wider environment.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

A relevant level 5 arboriculture related qualification or substantial experience and demonstrable ability to study at level 6 equivalent to 240 credits at level 4 and 5.

Students are advised they may incur extra costs for additional books, journal subscriptions and resources. If the printing allocation is exceeded then you may need to purchase additional credits. Students are responsible for transport costs and this includes field trips.

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including presentations, portfolios, dissertation, report writing and project work.

BSc Hons Degree in Arboriculture Level 6

This could lead to career opportunities in consultancy, local authority tree management and contract management, potentially leading to careers aligned to surveying and consultancy. Also, you could progress to postgraduate study, research roles or into teaching. On completion, students would be encouraged to apply for professional membership of the Arboricultural Association.

Higher Education learners are entitled to apply for HE Loans that cover the cost of tuition. In addition, depending on your chosen course of study and individual circumstances, you may be entitled to a maintenance loan. You may also qualify for a college bursary All learners can also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals for learners resident in houses where income is below £25000 annually.
