Who is the course for?

All ages, in paid employment.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

Furniture Manufacturers must have good manual dexterity, have a good work ethic and able to demonstrate their ability to work individually and as part of a team. Apprentices in this sector must be able to work to high standards, handling expensive materials and following written and technical specifications.

What will I study on the course?

Northumberland College offers the General Furniture Manufacturer pathway in this apprenticeship developing specialist craft skills and knowledge. Furniture Manufacturers are skilled craftsmen/women who make pieces of furniture

You will learn how to:

- Set up and operate machinery, tools and equipment used to produce furniture. Understand tools and equipment used

- Make components of furniture to specification within acceptable tolerances. Understand how and where components are use

- Use appropriate equipment to cut materials within acceptable tolerances

- Understand the principles of joints used in making hand-crafted furniture

- Assemble components of furniture. Understand the sequence of assembly and why this is important

Apprentices will attend classroom and workshop session one day per week delivered at Kirkley Hall and further develop their skills and knowledge in the workplace.

Progress reviews take place every 8 12 weeks. An End Point Assessment made up of a portfolio of work, an observation and a knowledge test.
