Who is the course for?

This programme has been designed to enable engineers to develop the skills necessary to fault find and problem solve in a timely, professional manner, reflecting on their work and contributing to the development of the process and environment they operate within

The qualification aims to widen access to higher education and enhance career prospects.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You should have the equivalent of 48 UCAS points and also have GCSE in English and Mathematics Grade A to C or 9 to 4, or level 2 equivalent qualifications.

Applicants who have relevant skills and experience but who do not hold the standard minimum entry requirements will be considered. Applicants will be required to evidence appropriate levels of work-related experience and/or vocational qualifications, together with an active interest in the subject area.

What will I study on the course?

Modules include:

First year of study will cover the following core units:

- Engineering Design

- Engineering Maths

- Engineering Science

- Managing a Professional Engineering Project

In the second year you will cover the following units:

- Electrical Electronic Engineering

- Automation, Robotics and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

- Electronic Circuits and Device

- Instrumentation and Control Systems

This course is validated by: Pearsons Edexcel

The duration of the course is: 2 year part time (Sept-June)

Course Fees for 19/20: £3800

Additional costs:

Students are advised they may incur extra costs for additional books, journal subscriptions and resources. If the printing allocation is exceeded then you many need to purchase additional credits. Student are responsible for transport costs and this includes field trips. You will also require appropriate personal and protective equipment when in the workshops

Assessment will be continuous via a wide range of methods including seminars, projects, presentations, reports, and practical exams. Some of the modules are assessed via externally set assignments.

You could also gain City and Guilds 4351-07 (2 Dimensional Computer Aided Design level 2), or City and Guilds 4351-01 (2 Dimensional Computer Aided Design level 3), depending on your previous CAD experience.

EDEXCEL BTEC HNC Diploma Electronic Engineering Level 5

After successfully completing this programme you will have the opportunity to progress to a Higher National Diploma or progress to an undergraduate programme. You may choose to go into the workplace using the qualifications you have gained. The BTEC Higher National Certificate in Engineering is widely recognised as a qualification that engineers gain on their route to a supervisory or management position in engineering.

Higher Education learners are entitled to apply for HE Loans that cover the cost of tuition. In addition, depending on your chosen course of study and individual circumstances, you may be entitled to a maintenance loan. You may also qualify for a college bursary All learners can also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals for learners resident in houses where income is below £25000 annually.
