This qualification is part of the Apprenticeship in Trees and timber. An Apprenticeship is an excellent way to earn money whilst gaining hands on practical work experience. It is a work-related, competence-based qualification, and is designed for someone in work or who wishes to progress into work. The Advanced apprenticeship, reflects the fact that you already have experience in the industry, which should be equivalent to a level two qualification. This qualification will however enable you to consolidate existing skills and develop new ones, particularly linked to supervisory and decision making tasks. This will help enable you to progress in an exciting and rewarding industry.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You should hold a level two qualification or equivalent qualification in order to progress onto this level three programme

What will I study on the course?

You will study a range of exciting units including Tree felling, tree climbing, Tree surveys and reports, Tree pruning and use of Tree supports in addition to looking at aspects such as business management to help you with your current employment or to provide you with invaluable skills for the future.

The course runs for one day per week, the duration varying according to the optional units selected.

Your previous skills and experience will be reviewed at the start of the course, with the end or target date for completion set with respect to these factors. The minimum time required is one year.

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/ observations, written assignments, and identification tests. It has to be pointed out, that training is delivered by a combination of college attendance one day per week, which is linked to work based assessment. Your Tutor and assessor will work with you and help you put together a work based portfolio of completed work.

You may also have the opportunity to complement your studies with other qualifications that will help you gain employment, including Functional skills and a range of competency tests to include chainsaw use and climbing operations.
