Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone who is employed within the floor covering industry.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

No formal qualifications are needed however c or above in maths and English can exempt you from doing Functional Skills, or a relevant Level 1 qualification.

What will I study on the course?

The course will cover the following units of work:

Health safety and welfare in construction, Understanding information, Quantities and communication with others, Understanding construction technology, Preparing sub floors, Levelling compounds, Preparing sub-floors measuring and planning, Setting out, Customer relations,

Textile Flooring and Vinyl Flooring

Also functional skills in Maths and English may be required dependant on previous Qualifications.

The course runs for two years within this time you will attend college one day per week and also be assessed on site within this time to gain the NVQ Qualification. This course is on a roll on roll off basis which can be started at any time of the year.

This will be done through ongoing assessments in College including theory and practical work, this will also be assessed on site through and NVQ assessor.

You could enter work at a Supervisory level.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
