Who is the course for?

The Academy focuses on community, grassroots and competitive football, while gaining valuable work experience and a full Level 3 Diploma in Sport. It will provide a route into football, developing practical ability, coaching skills and improve grassroots football which will benefit the local community. It can also lead to University, Fitness Instructing, Sports Development, Gym Instructing, Events Management and much more.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

The requirements are 4 A-C G.C.S.E grades

We would like our learners to be passionate about sport, particularly football. We do offer our Football Academy course at Level 2 (Level 2 Diploma in Sport) for learners who do not meet the requirements for Level 3.

What will I study on the course?

They study 12-13 units over two years, studying the following units:

Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport

The Physiology of Fitness

Assessing Risk in Sport

Fitness Training and Programming

Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise

Sports Coaching

Work Experience in Sport

Practical Team Sports

Sport's Injuries

Sports Psychology

Instructing Physical Activity

Organising a Sports Event

You will complete football training, strength and conditioning training and competitive league and cup football every week. Alongside this, learners will have a timetable including theoretical sports classes, independent directed study, maths and English (if required) and tutorial classes.

They are assessed in a number of different ways including: Report writing, practical assessment, the delivery of coaching/fitness sessions, completion of training plans, posters, leaflets, discussions etc.

Within the course you will also complete an additional Level 1 Award in Coaching Football and potentially Level 2 Gym Instructor or Level 2 Sports Leader Awards.

It will provide a route into football, developing practical ability, coaching skills and improve grassroots football which will benefit the local community. It can also lead to University, full time Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Events Management and much more.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
