Who is the course for?

The Extended Diploma is the largest in the suite of Animal Management qualifications, and is broadly equivalent to three A Levels.

What will I study on the course?

The Course provides a substantial core of knowledge and skills, alongside a wide range of optional units that enables learners to specialise in subjects that really interest them, or are important areas of study for employment in local businesses

The course runs for 3 days per week over 2 Years. You will also attend industrial experience days on one of your two days off.

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/observations, written assignments, and identification tests.

You may also have the opportunity to complement your studies with other qualifications that will help you gain employment, including

The qualification allows you to progress into employment.

You might progress into the following roles:

- Pet Store Manager

- Assistant Zoo Keeper

- Kennel/Cattery Manager

- Animal Welfare Centre Manager

- Dog Groomer

- Animal Care Technician

- Animal Nutritionist

- Vet Care Assistant

You may wish to progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in Animal Care, which allows you to combine working in a boarding kennels or in a similar job, typically attending one day a week at college or with a training provider.

You might want to go on to Higher Education either within the College or at a University to study a wide variety of degrees, such as:

- FdSc Animal Management

- BSc (Hons) in Animal Science

- BSc (Hons) in Animal Management

- BSc (Hons) in Animal Management with Wildlife Conservation

This qualification carries 120 to 420 UCAS points (depending on the grade achieved).

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
