You will need to successfully complete year 1 modules (see Advanced Technical Diploma (540) in Equine management. To succeed in year 2 you will also be required to achieve a theory exam, a synoptic assessment and run a successful equine even . The qualification also requires you to complete 5 optional units which can be chosen from an extensive range.
The mandatory units are year 1 units plus:
- working and training horses from the ground
The principles of equitation
Contribute to managing an equine event
The principles of horse fitness
Business management in the land-based sector
The range of optional units include topics such as:
- Exercising horses
Riding on the flat
Riding over fences
Introduction to coaching
Undertake a specialist project in the land based sector
The work experience module will provide you with first-hand experience of working in a competition yard, racing school, riding school or other related equine business. To prepare you for work experience you will undertake practical duties on the college yard at Kirkley, this will be organised on a rota basis. Work experience when possible will be organised around you rfuture career choices, or if still undecided will offer an opportunity to sample a variety of working environments which should help with your progression into employment or further equine training. For all modules you will study both practical and theoretical elements, learning how to do things and why you need to do and know certain things.
The Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma(1080) give you the chance to study different areas that really are of interest to you, especially through the investigative project.
