Who is the course for?

This level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture is a Qualification aimed at providing you with a range of practical skills and knowledge. This will help you to seek employment or progress into further training within the Agricultural Industry.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

Yes, you will need to have four GCSEs including, English and or maths and preferably two sciences and one other all at grade C or above, or a level 2 qualification in a related subject. The recommended entry requirements are the level 2 Certificate, Extended Certificate or Diploma in

Agriculture and/or previous practical experience within an agricultural environment

What will I study on the course?

The learner will need to complete 18 or 19 units (depending on which ones are selected) to

successfully gain this qualification.

The qualification covers a range of topics. The units that everyone is required to take are:

- Business Management

- Anatomy and Physiology

- Plant and Soil Science

- Investigative Project

- Work Experience

There are optional units which allow you to pick areas of interest, including:

- Livestock Production

- Agricultural Crop Production

- Grassland Management

- Livestock Breeding and Nutrition

- Farm Habitat Management

- Agricultural Crop Handling and Storage

- Principles of Inheritance and Genetic Manipulation

The period of work experience will allow you to gain first-hand experience of working on a farm

The course runs for 3 days per week over 2 Years.

Your progress will be assessed by a range of stimulating methods including written assignments, practical assessments/ observations, presentations, group work and identification tests.

You may also have the opportunity to complement your studies with other qualifications that will help you gain employment, including additionality e.g. employability skills.

NPTC Extended Diploma in Agriculture (QCF) Level 3

The qualification allows you to progress into employment.

You might progress into the following roles:

- Farmer

- Assistant Farm Manager (Livestock)

- Assistant Farm Manager (Crops)

- Stockperson

- Herdsman

- Farm Secretary

- Livestock Technician

You can go on to study subjects such as:

Agriculture Foundation Degree

BSc (Hons) Agriculture

This qualification carries 60 to 210 UCAS points (depending on the grade achieved).

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
