Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone who would like to obtain a responsible position caring for animals. It will develop your practical skills and enable you to research and analyse problems related to both pets and working animals.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You will need to have four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English or Maths and Science, or a relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit plus relevant work experience.

What will I study on the course?

You will study managing animal accommodation, planning and monitoring animal feeding, undertaking animal handling and safe working, understanding principles of animal nursing, understanding the principles of zoological animal health and husbandry, undertaking animal training and understand estate skills.

The course runs for three days per week over two years.

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/observations, written assignments, and identification tests.

You may also have the opportunity to complement your studies with other qualifications that will help you gain employment, including safe use of veterinary medicines and dog grooming at an additional cost.

NPTC Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management (720) Level 3

After completing the course you could study a HND or Degree in Animal Management, or you could find employment in animal care with veterinary practices, welfare organisations or in research.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
