Who is the course for?

This course, along with Level 2 Diplomas in Countryside and Environment, Agriculture, Arboriculture, Animal Care and Horse Care offers a sound introduction to the career opportunities available in the Land Based sector, but particularly in Horticulture.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You will need to have You should have 2 GCSEs at Grade D or a relevant Level 1 Qualification

What will I study on the course?

You will study The core units which are: Understand the basic principles of Plant or Soil Science, Setting out from a plan, Undertake Work Related Experience in the Land-Based Industries sector, Establish and maintain plants outdoors, Construct landscape foundations and surfaces, Introduction to Land-Based machinery operations and Participate in propagation techniques.

The course is run over 3 days per week. Students are also required to attend duties as part of their course which is run on a rota system.

Assessment is usually by written assignments but can be other methods also.

You will be screened for your Functional Skills and Personal Social Development at the start of your course. Other options may be available depending on timetabled commitments.

NPTC Extended Certificate in Horticulture (QCF) Level 2

Upon successful completion of this course you could progress into employment or into a Level 2 Technical Diploma in Horticulture

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
