Who is the course for?

This course is for people who are looking to progress onto employment in the IT industry or into University.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You will need 5 GCSE at A-C including IT and/or merit at BTEC Level 2 Diploma in IT. After completion of the year 1 Level 3 subsidiary diploma, a decision will be made regarding the progression to Level 3 diploma.

What will I study on the course?

You will study in your first year units such as computer systems, advanced spread sheet skills, database, web design and digital graphics. The second year will focus on programming, advanced multimedia skills, communication and networking and advanced software development skills.

The course is run over three days per week for 35 weeks.

Your progress will be assessed internally through the production of a portfolio of assignment work. You will be advised of your progress throughout the course with individual learning plans and regular personal tutorial sessions.

There will be opportunities available to study other relevant vocational qualifications e.g. CISCO, A+.

After completing the course there is opportunity to complete an HND in computing as well as other qualifications such as Microsoft and Cisco courses. In addition you will be encouraged to apply to University for undergraduate study in a related discipline.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
