Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone interested in taking their first steps towards a career in Health and Social Care. This is a vocationally related qualification, where learners develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context. It will engage learners to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern workplace including: team working; following instructions; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively and accurately completing tasks. This course will motivate learners in their Health and Social Care ambitions to pursue further study and responsibility within the workplace

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You should have two GCSEs at Grade D or above or a relevant Level 1 Qualification and Function Skills in English at Level 1 plus good communication skills. DBS clearance and references required.

What will I study on the course?

You will learn about working in the Health and Social care sector, anatomy and physiology, equality diversity and rights and safeguarding and spend time in a placement setting. Ideal if you would like to work in health and social care in jobs such as Care Assistant, Support Worker or Personal Assistant

The course runs for 3 days in college per week over 1 Year with 1 day in a relevant placement setting

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods to build a portfolio of evidence including practical assessments, presentation, observations and written assignments. It is graded from D to A*.

You will also complement your studies with other qualifications that will help you gain employment, including: mental health awareness, Nutrition and health and English and Maths.

CACHE Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care

After completing the course you could study a Level 3 Qualification in Health and Social Care such as CACHE Level 3 Technical Certificate in Health and Social Care or a work-based qualification such as CACHE Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) Level 3.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
