Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone wishing to gain practical experience in TIG welding and is suitable for beginners. This course is suitable for anyone who has the desire to learn a new skill or wish to re-train to become a skilled welder.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You will need to have an interest in gas welding but no formal qualifications are needed.

What will I study on the course?

You will study a number of different topics including health and safety within the welding environment and the safe operation of the TIG welding equipment. You will practically train to complete five welding assessments in accordance with BS EN 4872 welder certification.

The course runs from September till March where you will attend college one night a week for 24 weeks. You will complete five practical weld tests and answer some oral questions.

Your progress will be assessed by practical tasks throughout the course, by the welding team, to ensure competency and correct welding technique is being used.

You can attend college on a different night and train in a different welding process. Or you train to become a weld inspector or develop your skills further by training to become a highly skilled coded welder.

City and Guilds Award in Introductory Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding (QCF) Level 1

After completing the course you can progress onto the 3268 Level 2 or train in a different welding process or you can train to become a weld inspector.
