Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone wishing to enhance their practical skills in MIG welding to a very high, recognised standard. This course is designed to ensure you have the practical welding ability high enough to successfully pass a coded welding test and/or gain employment within a highly skilled and paid profession.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You will need to have a Level 2 welding qualification in MIG welding or industrial experience. A practical welding assessment may be needed.

What will I study on the course?

You will study a number of different topics including health and safety within the welding environment and the safe operation of the MIG welding equipment. You will practically train to complete five highly skilled weld assessments.

The course runs from September till March where you will attend college one night a week for 24 weeks. You will complete five practical weld tests and an online examination at the end of the course.

Your progress will be assessed by practical tasks throughout the course, by the welding team, to ensure competency and destructive tests performed in accordance to BS EN 9606-1 and BS 4872 welding certification standards. An online multi-choice exam must be passed to achieve qualification towards the end of the course.

You can attend college on a different night and train in a different welding process. Or you train to become a weld inspector or develop your skills further by training to become a highly skilled coded welder.

City and Guilds Award in Advanced Welding Skills (QCF) Level 3

After completing the course you can train in a different welding process, train to become a highly skilled coded welder and/or a weld inspector all of these professions are highly skilled, in demand and highly paid. Alternatively you could gain employment anywhere with this internationally recognised qualification.
