Who is the course for?

This course is designed for students who work in the welding and fabrication industry and want to become qualified to a recognised Level 3 standard. This Couse can be done in the workplace by completing an evidence based portfolio.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You must have completed an NVQ level 2 or have three years industrial experience. You must be employed in the welding and fabrication industry to complete this qualification.

What will I study on the course?

You will study a number of different units including complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements, using and interpreting engineering drawings and documents and work efficiently and effectively in engineering. You then have a choice of many different practical units including MIG, TIG, MMA welding, fabrication, pipefitting, heavy engineering and many others but this will depend on the facilities available at work as you will need to gather evidence of you using the relevant equipment.

You will be working in the welding and fabrication industry and will collate practical evidence from the jobs/day to day work you are doing with your employer. You will be visited from the college's work based welding assessor and assessed at work.

Your progress will be assessed at work by the colleges work based assessor or your supervisor at work. You will compile a portfolio of evidence which will be submitted for final inspection and certification once this has been fully assessed you will gain a NVQ level 3.

Engineering offers a range of other courses including part time and full time in welding and mechanical engineering areas along with Functional Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT. Alternatively you could train to become a coded welder or a weld inspector.

EMTA NVQ Diploma in Fabrication and Welding Engineering (QCF) Level 3

After completing the course you can train in a different welding process, train to become a highly skilled coded welder and/or a weld inspector all of these professions are highly skilled, in demand and highly paid. Alternatively you could gain employment anywhere with this internationally recognised qualification.
