Start Date:

Who is the course for?

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years. Learners will need to attend a practical placement as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You should have two GCSEs at Grade C, or a relevant Level 1 Qualification and Functional Skills in English at Level 1, plus good communication skills and a high level of motivation. DBS clearance and references required.

What will I study on the course?

You will spend considerable time in a placement setting where your work with children and young people will be assessed. Ideal if you would like to work in a range of settings with children or young people up to the age of 18.

The course runs for 3 days per week over 1 year as well as two days of placement per week up to 250 hours.

All units will assess your progress through a portfolio of evidence developed using a range of methods including practical assessments, observations, written assignments or tasks relevant to the care workforce. Some learning outcomes within this qualification will require assessment in a real work environment. There are no exams in this qualification which is awarded at a pass if a learner is able to demonstrate competent learning and achievement against all assessment criteria for each unit studied.

Learners who do not hold GCSE English and maths at grade C, will be required to study towards these qualifications starting at an appropriate level (determined by initial assessment). You will also complement your studies with other qualifications which will support your developing skills and future employment such as Interpersonal Skills Level 1, Playwork Level 2, Child Development and Care Level 2.
