Who is the course for?

This course is suitable for students who wish to follow a career in electrical, manufacturing or mechanical engineering.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You will need to have a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering.

What will I study on the course?

You will study an introduction to business terminology and project handling techniques. The engineering fields of computer aided drafting (CAD), mechanical principles and the usage of secondary processing will all be demonstrated and explained in easy to understand terms.

The course consists of two mandatory and four optional units (six units in total). All of the units have been selected by the engineering team in consultation with the local employers to determine local needs. The course starts in early September and finishes at the end of June the following year.

Your progress will be assessed by assignments issued at regular intervals for each subject. They will need to be completed within a specified amount of time then handed in by a deadline date. There are no examinations for this course.

All students undertake functional skills at an appropriate level. You will be encouraged to continue at the next level; an appropriate NVQ/PEO practical engineering course or consider another course option from our college prospectus.

EDEXCEL Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering (QCF) Level 3

After completing the course successfully you will be encouraged to consider progression onto a BTEC Higher National Certificate in General Engineering or you might want to further your career by gaining employment or seeking an advanced apprenticeship.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
