Who is the course for?

This is a practical course for those who need to master the basic skill in a specified welding process e.g. MIG, TIG, MMA or Oxy acetylene. This course is 100% practical and suits anyone who wishes to learn a new practical skill or wishes to re-train to being a skilled welder.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You will need to have a Level 1 qualification in welding or industry experience.

What will I study on the course?

This is a practical course for those who need to master welding in a specified process eg MIG, TIG, MMA or Oxy acetylene. This course is 100% practical and suits anyone who wishes to learn a new practical skill or wishes to re-train to being a skilled welder.

The course runs from September till June where you will attend college one night a week for 24 weeks. You will complete five practical weld tests and answer some oral questions. All practical welds Are assessed and marked in accordance with the criteria set by the awarding body.

Your progress will be assessed by practical tasks throughout the course, by the course team, to ensure competency.

You can attend college on a different night and train in a different welding process, or you can train to become a coded welder, choose a different welding process or enrol on a weld inspection course.

City and Guilds Certificate in Welding Skills (QCF) Level 2

After completing the course you can progress onto the City and Guilds 3268 Level 3 or train in a different welding process. Alternatively you can train to become a coded welder or a weld inspector.
