Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for those that are interested in the electrical industry and want to enter at a reasonable level.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You should have four GCSEs at Grade D or above including English, Maths and Science or a relevant Level 1 Qualification.

What will I study on the course?

You will study Health and Safety, working effectively and efficiently in engineering and communicating technical information. You will also study additional units including basic domestic electrical installation, electronic circuitry and electrical maintenance, including fault finding and testing. Ideal if you would like to develop skills and knowledge for work in the engineering industry.

You will attend college on a Thursday evening between 5.30 and 9pm. You will collect and build evidence for your work based portfolio and will be assessed in the electrical workshop whilst carrying out practical activities relating to your work. You will receive guidance and support relating to your progress throughout the qualification process.

Your progress will be assessed by the awarding body (EAL) and will be done in the workshop and via a number of written questions. The practical tasks will be assessed throughout the course to ensure competency. You will collate a portfolio of evidence that indicates competence and understanding of each chosen unit.

Engineering offers a range of other courses including part time and full time in welding and mechanical engineering areas along with Functional Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT.

EMTA NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (QCF) Level 2

After completing the course you can progress onto NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations at Level 3 (Providing they are employed).
