Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone who would like to gain practical skills and knowledge of painting and decorating at Level 2

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You should have two GCSEs at Grade D or above in English and Maths or a relevant Level 1 Qualification.

What will I study on the course?

You will study building methods and construction technology, how to erect and dismantle access and working platforms, surface preparation, application of paint by brush and roller, applying papers to walls and ceilings, specialist decorative finishes, spray equipment, creating and applying colour. Ideal if you would like to further develop painter and decorator skills.

You will attend college for two and a half days per week for one year. The main enrolment period for this course is in September but there will also be the opportunity to start the course at other times if places are available.

By practical assessments in the workshop, six multiple choice question papers, a practical skills test covering various practical activities and a Diploma online test.

Depending on your circumstances you could enrol onto another part time course.

City and Guilds Diploma in Painting and Decorating Level 2 Employability Level 1 and Functional Skills in maths and English.

After successfully completing the course you could progress onto a level 3 Diploma in painting and Decorating or NVQ Level 3 if you are employed in the industry.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
