Who is the course for?

The course is for those that wish to become involved in working in an office environment, it could be those who have aspirations to work in marketing, human resource management, event management, retail or a range of optional industries. The course is of great interest to those who are school leavers and are considering progressing their studies to secure the many apprenticeships available or are keen to further develop their studies studying at a higher level at college or wishing to attend a higher education establishment with the achievement of sufficient UCAS points. In addition this course is also suited to those who are working in a business environment and want to gain further understanding of their organisation's range of functions

Do I need any formal qualifications?

At least four GCSE s preferably including English and Maths at grade C or above or equivalent.

Should English not be your first language an English test will be required.

Previous study of business studies is advantageous.

Relevant work experience will also be taken into account as part of the application process.

In order to join this course students will have completed both the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business and the Level 3 Diploma in Business.

The course is organised using a range of formal taught sessions and activities that are conducted by students. As part of the programme students will meet local business owners, attend local businesses and take part in some work experience with local employers

Assessment is through a range of activities, projects both inside and outside college, observations and written work. Work will consist of a portfolio of work and there are no written examinations for this course

This is a full time one year course however if you have not achieved both Maths and English to a level 2 standard then you would be expected to complete these as part of the course.

Edexcel BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Business (QCF) Level 3

This is a one year course however students can progress onto the Edexcel BTEC Diploma in Business (QCF) Level 3. Students will be able to secure employment in a range of industries and sectors of their choice. Students that have completed this course have successfully secured apprenticeship programs with local employers whilst others have progressed onto the second year of the program and commenced on the level 3 National Diploma in Business.

The course will allow you to search for employment with a range of business sectors such as marketing/PR companies, accountancy practices, recruitment agencies, retail outlets and even management organisations.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
