Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone who has an interest in nail techniques/nail art; Beauty Therapists and Hairdressers. The qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years. You don t need any previous knowledge or experience to start this qualification.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

Students must have full uniform including a suitable kit at the start of the course the CND starter kit in liquid and powder is £45 or the CND gel kit is £83.10 with an additional option of buying a Gel lamp. Failure to have a kit will impact on your ability to progress with practical assessments.

Please note that you will be required to wear a uniform. You will have to pay for your uniform £25.99 for specific college tunic and then black trousers of your choice (no leggings or jeans).

As they are to be used during all practical sessions, we may be able to help you with these and also with related costs of coming to college such as travel and childcare. For further information, please contact our Help Hub direct.

* Due to awarding body requirements during practical sessions all students must remove all visible jewellery, including facial piercing and keep nails short and polish free

* Wear professional dress for practical sessions

* Have full dexterity and have a good standard of personal hygiene

* To be able to stand for long periods of time (support arrangements can be put in place if required)

* Be able to communicate and work effectively with others

* If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 5 is required.

What will I study on the course?

This Level 2 Certificate in Nail Technology aims to provide you with an industry standard of knowledge and skill in nail enhancements. You will learn practical skills and gain theory knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the nail Industry.

Within this course you will use CND nail design which is a worldwide award winning nail provider. We also encourage competitions and have outstanding success stories holding National awarding winning placements 1st and 2nd places in 2017and 2018. Depending on demand you will learn gel or acrylic nail enhancements.

Learning Methods:

* Practical classes in skills salons

* Group based activities / private study

* Demonstrations

The course runs over 77 hours, Monday 3.00pm to 8.30pm.

There are on line examinations or assignments to complete throughout the course. Learners must also demonstrate practical competence through practical assessed exams.

You may be able to complement this course from a wide range of other courses on offer at the College.

CG Certificate in Nail Technology (QCF) Level 2

Following successful completion of this qualification you will be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as; Beauty salon, Spa, Nail bar, Cruise ship, Hotel or Salon. Successful students may progress onto Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Nail Technology or VRQ Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
