Who is the course for?

If you have an interest in Art and Design and would like to go on and develop a career in the Creative Industries. The Creative industries according to government statistics is the fasted growing sector of UK industries growing by 10% in 2012 and accounted for 1.68 million jobs. The Creative Industries offer a wide range of challenging and exciting careers for people with imagination and creativity in a wide variety of fields.

The course is suitable for all ages of learners 16-18 as well as Adult learners.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

Entry requirements: You should have four GCSEs at grade C or above or a relevant Level 2 qualification. You will be required to attend an interview and show a selection of your work.

What will I study on the course?

Fine Art and Photography Pathway

You will explore ideas and experiment with a variety of fine art mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and video. This course encourages personal development and expression.

Animation and Games Design Pathway

You will study areas such as animation, games design and design for the web ideal for a career working in creative digital media. The course will give you the design and practical skills to allow you to advance to further study and pursue a career in this exciting and expanding field.

Graphic Design and Visual Communication Pathway

You will study graphic design, illustration for books, print, magazines, screen based media, interactive web design, short film, design for advertising, promotion, identity, packaging design and much more.

Fashion and Textiles Pathway

You will develop your ideas and skills by studying subjects such as pattern cutting, garment manufacture, textile print and embellishment to prepare you for a career working in fashion or textile design.

You will have the opportunity to take part in a number of live projects during the course these are often industry specific and allow you to gain industrial knowledge of your subject area which will support a UCAS application as well as adding to your CV. You will also have the opportunity to take part in a number of national and regional competitions.

You will have a range of talks/workshops with industry professionals as well as visits to studios and workshops of practicing designers and artists. As well as this there are regular visits to exhibitions and events to help inform and inspire your work.

The course runs for 4 days per week over 1 Year.

The work you complete on the course will be project lead and based very much on real work developed by you in response to the project you have been set. The work you produce will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/ observations, written assignments.

If you are 16-18 and do not have GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above you will have the opportunity to work to gaining these qualifications. You will have the opportunity to gain a number of additional qualifications to add to your CV.

EDEXCEL BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Art and Design (QCF) Level 3

After completing the course you could study a Higher Education Course such as A Foundation Degree, Higher National Diploma or a BA(hons) Degree. If you feel you are still not ready to study at HE level you would have the option of completing the Level 3/4 BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design.

Many of our learners study for free with a Fee Waiver when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18.

If you are not entitled to a Fee Waiver, you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 19 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 and have not previously studied at Level 3 or above you will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan that covers the costs of your tuition fees. The loan will not cover the cost of any examination / registration fees and these will need to be paid for separately, or you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help cover the cost.

All learners may also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.
