Who is the course for?

The Foundation Degree in Counselling is aimed at individuals interested in either pursuing a career in counselling or you may simply wish to utilise the enhanced communication skills and personal development learned to enhance your current working role.

A variety of core and specialist modules are studied over the two years to improve industry, academic and research skills.

This is a two-year part time programme. After successfully completing this programme you will have the opportunity to progress onto the BA Honours in Counselling (Top Up), or go into the workplace using the qualifications you have gained.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

You will need a Level 3 qualification in Counselling Skills.

Year 2:

- Grief, Loss and Trauma

Additional cost:

Students are advised they may incur extra costs for additional books, journal subscriptions and resources. If the printing allocation is exceeded then you may need to purchase additional credits. Student are responsible for transport costs and this includes field trips.

Progress will be assessed by a range of methods including: assignments, case studies, presentations, applied theory via skills practice work and placement work (note: placement cannot occur until you have been assessed as placement ready which is usually April time of year 1).

After completing the course, you can find employment in Counselling focused organisations or begin the process of setting up in private practice. You could also continue to study for a degree BA Hons in Counselling (Top Up).

Higher Education learners are entitled to apply for HE Loans that cover the cost of tuition. In addition, depending on your chosen course of study and individual circumstances, you may be entitled to a maintenance loan. You may also qualify for a college bursary All learners can also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals for learners resident in houses where income is below £25000 annually.
