Students from Hirst Park Middle School have been trying out exciting curriculum pathways in various vocational areas at Northumberland College.

The groups of year 8 students have been attending the college every Thursday morning and Friday afternoon over the last 2 years to learn new vocational skills. The collaboration also gave some of the mainstream college students the opportunity to help the tutors with the school groups.

The college aspect of the curriculum pathways has been well received by both staff and students, with many students commenting that their literacy and numeracy skills have improved as a result of the activities they took part in.

Sharen Bell, Vice Principal of Ashington High School said the collaboration was: "overall a very positive experience for our students who have had a taster of college life. Hopefully this will lead them to be more informed about their life choices at post 16."
