Floristry students from Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall campus near Ponteland took a trip north to Holy Island to decorate Lindisfarne Castle for the festive season.

The Level 2 Diploma in Floristry students were delighted to be approached by the National Trust to add festive displays to the castle rooms.

Given a set budget for materials the group of students sourced materials to create garlands, table arrangements, candle arrangements and a range of other traditional Christmas decorations.

Tutor Meg Ellison said: "This was an amazing opportunity for the students to take part in in a real customer project. They have spent several months working on the project, sourcing and ordering materials and making the decorations.

"I am very proud to see the finished results which make the castle look fantastic in time for Christmas events. We hope this is the start of many more opportunities like this in the future."

The floristry students offer a commercial service of displays and floral bouquets from the Kirkley Hall campus for weddings, events and occasions at discounted prices.
