Laura Thomson - HND in Animal Management

Laura Thomson - HND in Animal Management

I have always had a love of animals and wanted to pursue a career in animal conservation so I enrolled at the Kirkley Hall Campus.

The HND course gives you in-depth knowledge of animal welfare, conservation, anatomy and nutrition so I really learnt a lot about how to look after and preserve animals in their natural environments.

I work as a presenter at the college's Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens, teaching the public about animals and reptiles and their natural habitats and deliver the lemur feeding time displays and reptile handling for the general public. I also volunteer for National Trust and I'm involved in the red squirrels conservation project at Kirkley Hall.

I plan to gain more experience from my work with the National Trust and working on projects such as the red squirrel conservation to eventually get work in conservation of animals abroad somewhere exotic like Madagascar.
