Carlcroft Farm

Carlcroft Farm lies in the heart of the Coquet Valley and carries 750 Scottish Blackface ewes and around 300 replacement hoggs. The steading is found to the south of the farm whose Northern boundary is the Scottish Border and lies within the Northumberland National Park.

Vegetation varies from a white hill on the 'Slyme' to large areas of heather moorland up on the Northern area of the farm known as 'the hope'. Much of the farm consists of upland acidic grassland which merge into bog habitats in the valley bottoms. Since there is no in-bye land at Carlcroft that can be used for the production of winter feed, hay is made down at Kirkley Hall and transported up in the summer months.
