Care to Learn allows eligible learners to receive financial childcare support over the course of an academic year.

Care to Learn will pay up to £160 per child per week from August 2009 - July 2010 for the following:

  • Registered childcare for all kinds of learning, training or work-based learning which is partly or fully publicly funded
  • The necessary additional travel cost that young parents face in using their childcare
  • Childcare necessary to provide for essential private study associated with the learning or training
  • Fees necessary for a young parent to retain a childcare place during the holidays
  • Any deposit and / or registration fees that the provider usually charges to reserve a place up to £250
  • A trial within the £250 limit. This might take the form of a session or two with different providers to find the right arrangement for the parent, child and provider.

To be eligible for Care to Learn you must be:

  • aged under 20 years old
  • enrolled on a course that you started before you were 20
  • enrolled on a course that receives some public funding
  • at college, school or other course or
  • a non-employed trainee on work based learning
  • caring for your own child/children
  • using registered childcare

Remember – you can qualify for EMA and Care to Learn at the same time!

Weather forces college closures

Northumberland College was forced to close its centres this morning (Thursday) due to the ongoing snow.

All students are advised that there will be no lessons this afternoon or evening at any centres. The college expects to open as normal again tomorrow (Friday).

The college phone system is currently down, so we are unable to take any calls.

Engineers are working hard to fix the problem and hope to have the system back up and running soon. In the meantime, you can email advice.centre@northland.ac.uk or use the Live support service via the button on this home page to access our contact centre staff.

Apologies for any inconvenience.
